As of 2015, the Philippines has a minimum wage of 10,200 pesos monthly. Can you survive with that amount? Yes, if you are single, alone, and good with budgeting and planning. But if you are feeding at least three people (except yourself), paying a loan, renting a room, and living with an excessive lifestyle, you’ll possibly be a dead rat before the Halloween comes.
So, how can you survive and live with your 10K monthly salary?
- CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE
Don’t wonder why you can’t save with your 10K if you are always on the go for nightlife, shop like a one-day millionaire, and live with vices. I’m not saying to stop your vices, I’m just saying to reduce them. If you drink one (1) case of alcohol a week, reduce it to a half. It’s your life, by the way, so it’s still your choice whether you’ll change your lifestyle or not.
- WORK PART-TIME
If your time allows you, look for a part-time job to add to your budget. You can’t really expect to save from your 10K if you have more expenses than income. Freelancing is one of the jobs available online or offline. I’ll be talking more of this below.
- DO FREELANCING
Look for a freelance job where you can own your time while maximizing your skills, whether it’s writing, developing a website, or any other specializations you have. By the way, our company is still in need of dedicated freelance writers. If you wish to learn more and expand your writing abilities, reach me out to find for an available slot (Cebu, Philippines base only). You can also register with freelancing platforms, like Upwork and FreeeUp.
- JOIN A DIRECT SELLING COMPANY
I’m not talking about a pyramiding scam here; I’m talking about real direct sales companies. With them, you can learn and earn at the same time. Remember to check the company’s website, read reviews about the company, ask friends about the company, and know if they are a member of the Direct Selling Association of the Philippines (DSAP), HADSAP, HALAL, etc. Also, investigate if they have issues about fraud. If you can find a legit company, do it part-time while keeping your full-time with regular 10K salary.
- INVEST IN FINANCIAL EDUCATION
Instead of wasting time in soap opera and other time-killing habits, learn about how to budget your finances and how to handle money in general. Change your playlist with an audiobook or a podcast. Read books about success like Robert Kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad Poor Dad.”
You see, you can survive with 10K salary. You just really need to be smart enough. Did you know that in the United States, people need to have at least 3 to 4 jobs just to put food on the table? Why can’t you do that, especially if you only have 10K a month? You need to stop doubting yourself and start making some progress. Work hard and smart to achieve your dreams in life.
